Going No Where 850 1994

Hi!

I have a flashing yellow arrow on my dash and on top of that my car will not move in any gear. Are these two connected? Hope it is an electrical problem and not the transmission. Thanks, Carl

I also have had this problem. Most apparent on cold days. PNP switch fixed it right up. This is a common falure. It is on top of the tranny under the battery tray. Not that hard to do for the do it yourselfer.

I had the same problem - it is the PNP swtich, was about $250 for me to have done at indie shop.

You may be able to get the car going temporarily by turning it off and on a few times and then running the gear shift rapidly between park and 1 back and forth about 20 times to jiggle the switch.

My car started fine but would "slip" in and out of gear when the switch went, and the arrow would flash. Common problem in the 850's apparent but easily fixed. Call around for prices and get a Coloe specialist other garages will look at you like you are crazy and try to convince you it's another problem!

It is an electrical problem called your pnp switch. If its one of your first time getting this problem you can reset the ecu by deleting the codes. You should also shift the gear select from R to 1 around 10 times or so (ratchet effect to stir up the greases in your pnp switch) --- car off in positon 2
Eventually the pnp will fail more often and need to replaced.
If you dont know how to reset the codes you can leave the neg battery connector off for about 1/2 hour or better yet overnight.

      Mike,

Thanks for the info, I was also told that the PNP switch sends a signal to start the car and since my car starts the switch most likely works. Have you heard of this?

have your pnp switch changed... bad pnp switches usually become obvious on cold (winter days)

Thanks most people seem to think this is the problem. I can only hope
