transmission problem ? 850 1997

on my 850 t5 i have a itermitten problem with the transmission sometimes when i put it in reverse it will shift easy but it will not back up and it makes a loud clunk. When it did move I had to push down further on the peddle than normal to make it go and it felt like there was a chock behind the tire. When I got it to back up it sounded like the brake was hanging up. When it is warm I have no problems it runs good. This happens only after two days or more of sitting

I have the same problem with my 94. I don't use the handbrake ever (florida's flat). Too, I notice that the clunk occurs sometimes when shifting gears (automatic) and a sudden engaging into that gear. I smell some burning too. I'm taking it in tomorrow and I'll tell you what the mechanic says.

hi,
just a thought but when you leave the car for "2 days" do you leave the handbrake on? if so the problem could be the handbrake sticking on. try instead just leaving the car in park (if an auto trans) or leave it in gear (if manual trans) and not leaving the handbrake on. if problems goes away then that would be the problem.

steve.
