Throttle Body, What should I use to clean it with S70

I have a 1999 S70 Standard Shift with 130,000 miles on it. The car has been nothing less than FANTASTIC on reliability. I have religiously changed oil filters etc, and the only part I have had to replace that broke was a clutch sensor $60 bucks. I replaced brake pads once, and I did upgrade the shocks to Bilsteins.

I had the TB cleaned at an indy shop back at 70 K. figure it is time to do it again. It looks easy four bolts, and a new gasket. What should I use to clean it, just carb cleaner?

Thanks

N

    Throttle Body, UPDATE S70

Dealer tells me that removing the throttle body on the 1999 will require a software reload etc. So, it looks like the cleaning will be minimal ie. cleaning out the end that connects to the air filter.

Removing the TB for cleaning and putting it back in the car DOES NOT require software download. I don't trust this dealer ;(

ONLY wen a new TB/module is placed in the car, you need the download to tell the ECU you have a new module with a new serial number.

        Thanks JDA,

I believe you are right. I thought of this driving home, the answer just didn't make sense. The parts guy told me this and I know they are clueless as are most Volvo dealers. I can swim circles around most of their techs. Scary.....

    Be careful S70

I've read that the '99+ volvos with the ETS TB, have a special coating inside the throttle body and that reg carb cleaner will damage that coating.

You'll need that special throttle cleaner solution sold by the dealer. I bet it costs some bucks ;(

Just FYI, "carb cleaner" frequently contains silicone, which is detrimental to the precious metals (platinum?) used in an O2 sensor. "Throttle body cleaner" is free of such contaminents.
