I hear a scruntching noise over bumps on the front right side of my 2001 V70 T5. I had the front sway bar links replaced but that did not clear up noise. The shop where the work ws done said it was either front struts or the ball joint. As either of these 2 options are expensive does anybody have any advice.

    After I had a new set of tires put on my 01 V70 I had it 4-wheel aligned.
    The shop told me the RH inner ball joint( the one that screws into the rack and pinion unit) was bad, $110.00 from the dealer. I asked how the LH inner condition was, the tech said it was just fine and did not need replacement, as most wear is attributed to road conditions,
    most road damage, ie potholes, debris etc is on the RH side of the road.
    As to the struts they are fine.

    Chances are, it is your strut mounts. The dealer will charge you around $500 to do both sides. I just had mine done last week, (along with a new GT Transmission...) and the handling difference is remarkable. As well as much quieter.

      How many miles were on your car? Mine has approx. 64,000. Also did you have the struts replaced also or just the strut mounts?

        My car has 79k on it, but I bought it with that problem already there - so there is no telling how long they were like that.

    If the front struts are still OK (rock front fender up and down), then it could be the rubber bushing at the top of the tower. A little cotton in the ears would save you a lot of money. :)
