timing belt S40-V40

What mileage should the timing belt be replaced? If it breaks will the head be damaged in this engine?

Thanks.

My warranty manual says 105K mi for my 2002.

I'm pretty sure this is an interference engine - will be damaged if the belt breaks. Most modern engines are that way.

when i had my V40 second hand it was right on the change mileage 80,000miles(120,000k)the previous owner said it was due.
I changed it and the belt was climbing up the teeth on the pulleys and would not have lasted much longer without breaking.
I will never go over the 60,000 now to make sure.
If the belt breaks or jumps the teeth the head will be badly damaged and somtimes the whole engine is totalled.

Yeah, I agree. The warranty manual really says 105K mi or 14 years whichever comes first!!! The belt will dry rot into pieces before you hit 14 years but that is of no concern to the dealer as the car will be 10 years out of warranty.

Although the book says to change it at 105,000mi I will probably change mine somewhere between 60-75,000mi 6 or 7 years tops. I will be doing it myself so the cost of the belt will be cheap.

Not looking forward to it but won't be as bad as changing the belts(timing and drive) and water pump on a friend's 2000 Civic two months ago. That job sucked!
