Hi,

I just want to let you know my great experience with this very nice and efficience aftermarket supplier of Volvo parts named Scan-Tech.

I've ordered 2 inner tie rods for a Volvo S40 by Lemfoerder (one of the most reputable aftermarket steering component manufacturer). Unfortunately these tie rods came without locking washers that are required to secure the tie rods to the steering rack so I was stuck with an unusable set of parts :( This was not a packaging problem since after several calls to Lemfoerder Germany, I got confirmation that these parts are supplied without any locking washers!! You need to know that you CANNOT get the washers alone from Volvo, they only sell their own tie rods with the locking washers.....and at a huge price!!

I asked several other tie rod manufacturers for locking washers (Febi, Sidem) and none were delivering the locking washers. In one word, all these manufacturers sell tie rods set that are unusable on the S40!!!!

In a last attempt I contacted an unknown society based in Sweden, Scan-Tech, that manufactures aftermarket parts for Volvo and Saab. And this was my solution: first Scan-ech is the ONLY manufacturer that sell tie rods WITH required locking washers and second, one of the head officer of Scan-Tech USA offered to ship the locking washers alone directly from their factory in Sweden!!

All I can say is that I'm a lucky man again thanks to Scan-Tech! Beware this is not an advertisement for Scan-Tech products and I do not work for them. I only post this message so that other people here, such as me, know that this little society named Scan-Tech is very professional, helpful and provide great support even for me who has not bought parts from them!!!

So if you need parts for your Volvo, first take a look at their website to see if they have what you need because this may save you A LOT of troubles!!!

    I have had very poor results with scan tech parts. They are significantly cheaper than OEM, but they last significantly less time. Control arms and sway bar links both lasted 20K under normal driving conditions. OEM has lasted me 60K. Stick with OEM if it is a significant hard to replace part.

      I wouldn't say they have cheap parts judging only of a few experience. Volvo OEM replacement parts usually have not the same quality than parts that came with your car when new so it is not sure that replacement parts from Volvo would have cover 60K miles such as your original parts. Moreover there seem to be a lot of different results with either aftermarket parts or Volvo originals. For example, your control arms and sway bars lasted 60K miles with Volvo OEM under normal driving conditions........................mine lasted almost 130K miles!!! You see that guenine Volvo parts are also quite variable in term of resistance too as I don't think my driving style will make these parts last twice as long as yours. I guess replacement parts can be good or bad no matter if they are Volvo guenine or not. In term of front lower arms, Volvo had to replace a lot under warranty too.

        Just wanted to let everybody know how went the next steps of my pleasant "discovery" of Scan-Tech company. It's a bit long but read carefully because you will understand how good is this manufacturer of aftermarket parts for Volvo (and Saabs). But again, I do not work for them, this is not an advertisement for them, it's only a few words from a VERY HIGHLY SATISFIED customer!

        As you know (see first post), when I bought my tie rods kit from Lemfoerder (part of ZF group), I did not received the locking plates with them and I couldn't get these locking plates alone anywhere until I found Scan-Tech which seems to be the ONLY company to manufacture the tie rod kit correctly ie with required locking plates. So I contacted Scan-Tech to provide me 2 locking plates alone and immediately received a positive answer! But the best is still to come!

        After a few days, Scan-Tech USA contacted me to tell me the following:

        - they would ship the complete tie rod kit (tie rod + locking plates) and not only locking plates because otherwise they would have a kit with no plates which is just as useless as an original Lemforder kit!!!

        - they would ship this to me as a no charge sample!!!

        Do you imagine? I was asking Scan-Tech for locking plates only (2 small washers actually) but as these plates are part of the complete tie rod package, they decided to send me the complete stuff ie locking plates WITH new tie rod ends!!!!!! I received the package via UPS very quickly directly from the factory in Sweden....at no charge!!! INCREDIBLE! The parts looks very nice, they are painted and the inner balljoint is yet lubricated. On the other hand, the Lemfoerder kit I bought was not painted, not lubricated and the locking plates were missing..........and this is supposed to be ZF "german" quality......hmm!

        Well all I can say is that I'm REALLY IMPRESSED by Scan-Tech, of course because their tie rod kit is good quality and comes with all what is required (unlike Lemfoerder or Febi), and certainly because their care for customer (in my case, a new customer) is really impressive and I can honestly say that I've never heard similar experience with other company. They replied immediately to all my emails, were very kind and helpful...something that is really rare nowadays.

        Sorry for being a bit long but I honestly wanted to share this great experience with all of you Volvo owners because I must say that Scan-Tech really impressed me in a very positive way and I can trust that I will first turn to their products for my future needs because they are much more helpful and professional than other aftermarket parts manufacturers for Volvo.

        In conclusion, the subject of this topic is really the truth: IF YOU NEED VOLVO (OR SAAB) PARTS, GO SCAN-TECH, you wont regret it!!!!!!!!
