HELP! 95 850T AT won't drive in any gear 850

I did a tranny swap on this 850T and had everything together right. I then drove it about a half mile (drove perfectly) when the Automatic tranny quit working. Car seems to be in nuetral in any gear. The transmission fluid is still showing full. What happened?

Check the drive axle, did it come loose?

No, both driveaxles are still in, plus, I would have heard some kind of grinding. I cleaned out the mode selector and could not find ANY electrical issue or ground that was obvious. It is almost like maybe the tranny pump got clogged up or something. Acts like it is low on ATF but the dipstick shows full. Any more ideas?

HELP! 95 850T AT won't drive in any gear 850

I've had a few cars (three to be exact) towed in that had axles done who knows where, and the car just wouldn't move, like tranny...no noise either...very strange. That is why I asked.

The transmission you installed is exactly the same as the one you took out? The only difference I've seen (other than the 93 with it's different cooler lines) is the Vehicle Speed Sensor location. If you matched apples for apples; if the gear shift clicks as you proceed through the gears; if everything is hooked up, and the fluid is full, then really, the only thing that could have happened is "ick in the pan" clogged the pump.

You can check for codes in A1, but other than that...

Chris

I was suspecting that the pump may have clogged up. Any way to remedy that? I really hate to pull it back out, but willing to do what I must.
Also, thanks for the replies,
Gene

You replaced the transmission because....???? the car wouldn't move?

The replacement transmission came with a torque convertor? or yours was re-used?

A pump will generally begin to complain before your car stops moving. Also, it won't just "jump" into neutral...you tend to lose gears and coast down to only having low gear before you have no gear...

Could you humor me and check the drive axle?

Chris

Got tranny code 124-"Mode selector faulty or short circuit to ground". PNP seems fine and linkage is hooked up fine. Reverse lights come on in reverse and Park keeps the car from rolling. However, in any other gear the car rolls as if in nuetral.
Also, the car was driving perfectly for a 1/2 mile when suddenly it just seemed it was in nuetral. No noticeable noises or lights on dash, just lost power to the wheels. I had to tow it home.

124-"Mode selector faulty or short circuit to ground"

That is where you start. All you had to do was hit a small bump or let off the gas to move a tight wire or plug. Your tranny is OK, the install is OK, just the technician needs to calm down and do an electrical search.

Lots of luck,
Klaus

BTW, after you cleared the code, could you put it into drive or wouldn't the code clear?

Never had a mode selector keep a car from moving through space, but there is always a first time, and stranger things have happened...

Check to see if there are any tranny codes. Recheck the linkage setup from the console forward. PNP switch connected OK?
