OIL LEAK - Please tell me its something common, cheap and easy to fix 850

Hey all
Went out to my car yesterday and saw a large puddle of oil under the driver's side towards the front of the car. I got under it this morning an can't tell for sure where its coming from. I can't even find a good picture in Shilton's to describe it very well. There is oil around the RMS but not much, most of it is to the front of that. It's deffinately not coming from the top of the engine and there is no oil around the passenger side, not just an oil cap gasket:(. I can't see anything that looks like its on the front of the engine leaking down but I am not sure. Most of the oil looks like its dripping from what looks like a mount on the front of the driver side of the engine. Does this sound like any kind of common ailment?

Also, does in one know of a good Indy in the Indianapolis area? :(

Thanks

Check for leakage under the distributor cap. If the cankcase vent system gets plugged, you can pop the seal between the cam and the rotor. If that is it, you'll need to reseat the seal and repair the blockage in the crankcase vent system.

OIL LEAK - Please tell me its something common, cheap and easy to fix 850

    Hi,

I'm having a similar problem. Try replacing the flame trap and cleaning out all the hoses and vacume lines, make sure the oil pressure is not excessive. have a look at the dip stick tube where it enters the base of the engine, the gasket may be leaking there blowing out oil.

Often times the turbo return line gasket and seal (mostly the seal, you just have to do both) will begin to leak prolifically. Often times it will mimic a rear main seal leak, which it could also be...but I'd opt for cheaper first.

    Hope this helps,

    Chris

sounds exactly like the rear main seal leak I had last summer on my '95 850. Started suddenly and by most accounts from this list, is very common in that year. I actually found the dealer gave me the best price to repair: $900, or 20% off list. Just had to ask for his best price. I found the indie shops around here (St Louis) wanted $1300-$1400.

The St. Louis dealer was kind to me too when my wiring harness died on my not forgotten 245. Gave me 20% off without blinking an eye.

I posted the same question on volvospeed and got a replay to check the trubo return line. I looked up there and it looks like the source of the leak. The car is sitting uphill so I don't have any idea how the oil got so far to the front of the engine, but I hope it takes care of it.

          Check pressure 850

You have a turbo, so no flame trap. But there is a plastic line going from the oil filler cap down under the injector cover. This is the crankcase pressure line, it could be clogged. That part can cause undue pressure everywhere and is seldom checked.

            Check pressure 850

How do I check that line?
I got underneath the car to change the o-ring and gasket on the oil return line based upin another recomendation. I didn't do it though because it looked like all the oil was to the left of the turbo, not around the the oil return line.

            Thanks
