Coolant for 850

Soory if this posts twice. Is there a comparable coolant to the Volvo 50/50, or do you have to only use the Volvo 50/50? Thanks!

Well, there are all kinds of different proprietary coolants out there.
I've heard some well respected foreign car techs say that they have seen a difference over the long haul using the Mercedes fluid.

I'd go ahead at this point and get the AMSOIL Propylene Glycol universal fluid, good for about 250,000 miles or 7 years. My second choice would be the new long life universal Prestone Ethlylene Glycol.

I do not disagree with the previous post but I have heard of engine temp gauges that read slightly higher than normal when different types of coolant are mixed in a 50/50 manner such as when a water pump is changed and the coolant is drained out the lower radiator hose and not the block drain. Not all of the coolant is released from the block when the lower hose is removed. If you are changing the coolant any non-phosphate based anti freeze with a 50/50 mix is o.k. If you are just topping off the coolant resivoir (say less than a pint) you can use water.

Just use dexcool approved coolant, or for that matter Prestone ethlyene glycol based coolant. Some will disagree with me, but the Volvo "proprietary" is a rip.

Coolant for 850 and the rip-off

Ahh at last!! Someone just said it like it is.It amazes me how these auto guys have people in lock by trying to differentiate stuff like Coolant. I still get a kick seeing how people realize after I go explaining to them how minute the difference is between Regular and Premium Gas.
I mean cars are basically 100 year old technology. One shouldnt forget that. Coolant for Volvo is like Coolant for VW or Audi or Pinto. Wwhen you remove the brand, you have Ethyl glycol...good enough to see , but very poisonous to the taste!!!

Just get rid of any vanity, go buy a 5 dollar container and mix the darn thing already!! Come back and tell us how well it is running and how controlled your engine temperature is.
