Oxygen Sensor 2000 S70 GLT Question. S70

Here is my problem. On my GLT, while going at a constant speed, say 40 or 60mph, I notice an occasional dip in rpm and it seems like the engine 'stalls' or 'sputters' for a second or two. The Check Engine lite has not come on, the engine does not shut off and it when accelerating from 0 to 60, it never does this. only when maintaining a certain speed.

At first, I thought it was some cheap gas, so I put a bottle of Chevron fuel system cleaner in, but that hasn't fixed it. It seems like its getting slightly worse. Anybody care to take a guess?

Does the cars computer store codes in it, even if the check engine light does NOT come on?

I love the car, its got 69k miles on it and I want to keep for a long time, I was also thinking of having the dealer put in a new thermostat, oxygen sensors and maybe a fuel filter since it seems most of those go out between 75 to 100k miles.

Thanks for any help. This is great.

Oak

sorry to tell you, but.. S70

your ETS module is beginning to fail, expensive to fix, to the tune of $1200.

Do a search on ETS module failures.

I did a search on this site and my problem does seem to be the ETS Module.

It does look expensive, guess the kids will get a lump of coal from santa.

Just wondering, how do you know so much? I read all your old posts and it seems like your a volvo tech or something.

      Thanks.

        Thanks S70

No I am not a volvo tech, just a regular guy like you that 5 years ago used to pay $150 for a simple brake job, and tired of paying $75 at the dealer for cleaning the AC drainage duct and things like that.

Five years ago, I bought the Bentley manual for the 240 and found this site. I would visit this site for about an hour every evening, and just read the different posts and the answers given. For the first year I didn't even participated, I just read.

I learned from my readings how to diagnose a malady and how to fix it myself if possible. In the last couple of years I begun to participate and help the volvo newbies. I am glad to help, and is my way of paying back since I was helped many times by other volvo owners on this board.

I have saved hundreds of dollars fixing my volvos, especially the RWD. I am new to the FWD scene, I only had the V70 for 18 months and I new nothing about the FWD volvos, but hanging around this site I have learned about the common maladies and fixes for the FWD.

Keep coming back to this site, read the different posts, ask questions and you'll learn a lot about your car and how to fix it yourself, at least the minor things.

        Cheers,

          Thanks S70

The ETS light has been staying on longer than expected, so I'm sure thats it. I also checked the s70 messageboard on edmunds and you are correct that it is a common problem, people with similar aged/miles vehicles having the same problem.

I have an appointment at the dealer tomorrow, was quoted 900 to replace ETS. When I bought the car new, the dealer gave me a book of coupons that never expire so I'm gonna get 10% off of the visit too.

I applaud your efforts for learning more about your car, I too have learned alot from this board. I had the antenna ring/key/startup problem and it was this site that called it correctly.

          Thanks again.

          Oak
