Short in 'Check Engine Light' V70-XC70

I've had my 1999 V70 in four times for the "Check Engine Warning" - they've replaced a vacuum elbow, front O2 sensor, coolant sensor, Rear O2 sensor and now cleaned the ETS. Mechanic claims there must be a short in the check engine light as diagnostic test does not indicate any problem. Is this possible?
