Short in 'Check Engine Light' V70-XC70

I've had my 1999 V70 in four times for the "Check Engine Warning" - they've replaced a vacuum elbow, front O2 sensor, coolant sensor, Rear O2 sensor and now cleaned the ETS. Mechanic claims there must be a short in the check engine light as diagnostic test does not indicate any problem. Is this possible?

Not all of the Volvo codes show up on the OBD II scanner; this may be one that you will have to get the dealer to diagnose. On my S70, the dealer tracked my problem to bad gas cap. I had tried two OBD II scanners and neither would read the code.

    RUN, don't walk.... V70-XC70

    away from this dealer/shop.

Stop throwing money at replacing parts blindly. Invest $100 and get yourself an OBD II code reader and get involved in the maintenace of your car.

You don't have to do the repairs yourself if you don't want to, but with the OBD codes on hand and this board, you'll be pointed in the right direction.

That's a new one. At least 5 error codes, 5 repairs, and one left over, non-existant code. The CEL being shorted out doesn't make sense. Mechanic should easily be able to diagnose that problem. If there is an Autozone close to you, borrow a reader and verify that all codes are clear.

1 year ago I had a check engine light come on so I brought it to the Volvo dealer. Result..sir you need a new catalytic converter asap. Cost, $1,400 dollars. Volvo dealers are in the business of selling parts, not keeping your car going.

I took the car to my indy guy, he reset the light and it has been fine for 50,000 miles.

      Go figure.
