Unidentified part 850

I'm on my fourth Vovlo, a 1994 wagon. Recently, as I was getting into the driver's seat, I noticed something on the ground. I picked it up. It is a circular gear of some kind, made of dense white plastic with 13 teeth. It measures 1" in diameter and is 7/8" high. There is a 3/8" hole in the center of the gear into which a 5/16" long plug fits. I wonder if this a part from the Volvo that somehow came loose and was kicked onto the ground when I got out of the car. I've put a picture of it in the gallery. Does it look like a Volvo part to anyone?

Thanks in advance

Only thing I can think is part of the seat. Save it for when something stops working. You never know it might be part of the last space shuttle. Call NASA to see if it might be the last piece of the puzzle. It reminds of the times we would screw with each other at the shops by dropping off extra check balls etc. on your buddy's bench when he's doing a trans or a carb.
