How come the 5-cyl intake runners changed from the 950 to the 70 series?

The 850 turbo has one of the nicest "presentations" when the hood is popped. You see those 5 beautiful aluminum intake tubes gracefully leading to each intake port on the cylinder head. The 70 series, including C70, V70 and the XC90 use what looks like a "truck version" of this intake manifold, and it couldn't flow as well as the one in the 850.

Why did they do this?

How come the 5-cyl intake runners changed from the 950 to the 70 series?

The later year cars use a system for air intake that is different from the 850.The later cars do not have a throttle body or a accelerator cable.they use a "fly by wire system" which uses a electronic throttle module and a sensor on the accel pedal to signal the etm how much to open or close. The etm is so large that they had to redesign the manifold so it would fit into the car.As far as flow goes I think that the later ones flow better as the etm butterfly is now in the middle of the manifold not off to one side.

You should probably post that one more time...just in case someone didn't get it.
