Engine cuts out, stop to reset S80 2000

Driving the car, runs fine, then starts cutting out, then check engine light comes on, and then pull over safely message, then need to wait 2-5 minutes to restart engine, then runs for a while, then will do at anytime, replaced the Mass air flow senso, does not appear a trans problem, feels like a sensor or something on the engine, any clues ???? Sometimes driving down the road, the car feels like someone lifting up and down on gas pedal. 2.9 non turbo
Please help !!!

    Most likely, it was due to ETC.

      Thank you, Took the car to dealer, you are correct, said it is the Trottle Body Control. They will change next week for a price tagof $ 550.00 for pars and labor to equal a grand total of $ 800.00

        Here's the best part: once you replace the ETC module, the replacement part is just as likely to fail again. Multiple failures are common, and once the car is out of warranty, Volvo wipes its hands of any culpability for its design errors. A more concerned manufacturer might have the common courtesy to subsidize the cost of inherently deficient parts.

          What do you mean? They only erred with the transmission, Brake electronics, throttle body electronics, oil seals all over, sensitive ground issues, several mechanical parts that wear way before their time.....it's a fine car compared to the Vega, AMC Gremlin (too bad Gremlin was taken before the S80 was named. S zero would have matched)

          A mechanic's dream, Volvo helping Volvo. Wonder when the consumer plans to stop feeding the frenzy. I always look for ways to get around their gouging maintenance cost.

            Just had the ETC replaced in our 01. Thank goodness we have the extended warranty. They did a couple of other things under warranty and the 60,000 mile service less the oil change. (I do that myself) The charge was over $800. You gotta love 'em.
