Widest possible rear tire recommendation S70

I have a 99 s70 with 2 newer bridgestone turanzas 195/60r15 on the front. I need new tires for the back now and i am wondering what is the widest tire you would recommend getting without worrying about rubbing and so on. I am wanting a wider tire to fill out the wheel wells, but I do not want the car to look goofy.

Thanks
rudyfan

If you put the same size tires front and rear you can put 205/55/15 size tiree on those rims no problem. The stock wheels are 6.5 inches wide so 205 fit easy. A 225/50 will also fit but with minimal if any performance increase. 205 if recommended for a 6.5 inch, 225 is the widest ona 6.5" rim. make dure you verify this from the tire manufacturer as some may not recommend it.

I'm running 215/45/R17 with no problems.

You need the exact same tires in the rear because you should be rotating the wheels every 7,500 miles. It's also FWD and not a 'hot rod'.

Dont mean to hijack this thread, what tire are you guys running in the snow and ice. I am in Minnesota and wifes s70 fwd sucks in the snow. I am planning on getting some winter wheels, 15" steel, to put on. Where would I find some inexpensive wheels with correct off set and bolt pattern for this car? Is there a classifieds on this site?
Thanks,
Joe
BTW, I understand you should run all same sizes of tires, that is outer diameters are the same.

the dealer usually has the best deal wheels (steel) mounted with balanced tire for about $500 US. Pretty good because Volvo wants over $100 per wheel. Sometimes they even include the wheel covers. Try your local dealer and see.
