850 Electronic Climate Control - A/C issues 850 1993

Okay, I found a replacement climate control module for my 93 850 glt. The fan now works but when I use the A/C, the clutch for the compressor clicks on and off about every other second not quite doing much to cool anything down. Also, when I put the selector in the middle on auto in conjunction with putting the fan speed on auto, nothing happens. Any ideas what's going on here? The new module I got looked a little different so I'm wondering if I have to put in the exact same one for it to work right. This is still driving me crazy but with a little help I think I'll get it figured out. Thanks in advance!

I think you need a formal introduction to the wonderful world of Lousy Volvo AC Evaporators! And boy are they lousy. Most of them develop leaks. On a 240, it probably takes a couple of hours AT MOST to replace the evap, but the 850 was built AROUND the evaporator. It takes a complete dash removal (and I do mean complete) just to get to the evaporator. We're talking at least $1200 to replace.

Fortunately there are some good products out there that will, when injected into the AC system, seal the leaks -- for a while. Eventually, you'll either have to sell the car, or plunk down the cash.

    :)

    greetings,
sounds like leak in system, happened to me on a volvo once before , i thought i was charging but because hole in system some place, the freon was going out as fast as i put in, clicking fast on /off is low on freon sign, i think. if you do again and still click on and off try quest brand sealer( auto zone) about $20.00, seals holes in metal , usually works,
    good luck

We have a '95 850 sedan. Had the AC charged professionally in May, R134a. Now it does not cool and the compressor clicks on and off (clicking = low refrigerant, I know). I bought a charging/sealant kit with guage, but do not know where the low pressure connection is; where is the charge connector/valve?

are you low on freon? usually when it clicks on and off fast like that it needs freon. I am in the process of having volvo put new compressor and clutch in the car my compressor never shuts off until it overheats. Its been gone for 2 days now and I havent heard I thing from them, dont know if thats good or bad. kelly

So, has this happened to you before and you just recharged the freon (R134a)? I did recharge it a couple of days ago but maybe I did it before I got the new climate control unit. The refrigerant can said I needed to have the A/C running while I was recharging so I guess I give it another charge. Was your A/C compressor clutch just engaging and then disengaging every other second making a click, click? This info helps! Sorry to ask too many questions, I'm just trying to figure this out. Thanks!
