ABS warning lamp gremlin (?) S70 1998

Hi, all,
Just picked up my '98 S70 T5, 103k miles, always maintained according to the book (and receipts). The ABS light comes on and goes off for no apparent reason. Reading the forum a bit, I think this is just an intermittent fault and doesn't actually signify a problem with the ABS itself. I do have some questions:-
1. Is this correct ?
2. When the light is on, is the ABS actually OK or will it not operate correctly until the light goes out?
3. If just an electrical gremlin, is it worth getting fixed (I see a replacement module is around $400 from Volvo, a rebuilt one around $130 from someone I saw on a site), or should I just live with it ?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Cheers
Barry

it's the dreaded ABS module failure. Common failure at 75K miles in '96-98 850/70 series volvos.

When the ABS light is ON, you have no ABS braking just regular braking power.

    Options:
    1) remove warning light from dash, or place black tape over it and live with it, just no ABS braking
2)have it repaired once and for all for $130. The new unit will fail again with age and mileage.

Thanks! Didn't look far enough back in the archives, found some info but wasn't sure about the ABS working or not. Appreciate it, will probably take the unit out and have it repaired.

Me dont likes ABS anyway. I like the old fashioned way of braking. ABS worthless on gravel roads in my opinion too.
