electric fan radiator 850 1995

My electric fan on my radiator froze up.

some questions how do I disable so I can drive to get fixed?.

How much does it cost to fix?

Is it easy to install if I get one at a junkyard?

Can I get one at a parts hopuse?

Alan

Alan, I hope I'm not too late in responding; mine went out 2 weeks ago. Although I didn't change it, I don't believe it's too hard (my brother fixed it). I bought one from FCPGroton.com for about $185 (that's expensive for a fan, but probably more expensive from dealer, and no local parts places carried it.) I continued driving it for a day or two, just was careful about letting it idle.

The scary thing was that the fan failed while I was inside talking to someone. When I came out, something smelled strange in the car, and the needle was IN THE RED. I thought I had ruined the engine, but so far, all is well. Hopefully it stays that way.

    Good luck.

If you do drive your car, make sure you watch your temperature gauge. It has a circuit to make it read in the middle unless the temperature varies quite a bit.

If the guage goes over 3:00 o'clock, your car is HOT!!! Damage could follow quickly.

Remember, the water temperature goes up after you shut the engine off. If you have a garden sprayer, fill it with water and wet the radiator when you stop, or if you have to stop.

Do not remove the coolant cap if the car is hot. Since the cap holds pressure, the coolant can be above its boiling point. If you release the cap st this time, coolant in the cylinder head can flash to steam and cause hot coolant to spew out and burn you.

Hopefully someone can tell you how to get a good deal on a new fan. I think that a junkyard is a poor place to get this vital part.
