Why not just purchase one of the two from your supplier, explaining that you may have to come back and swap it for the other. Ask if that's OK, then remove your original pump, if it matches, great, if not, return for the other one.
Or.....remove the original pump, take it to your supplier and have them match it up.
    Simple.

And so the story goes..hmmmmm sounds like you got one Hot engine- these car crooks nowadays do exactly that....one scratched off number here and there and voila, some guy desperate to buy a new motor on the side, gets one 3 days later of course with missing mileage etc etc.

To solve your problem much as I hesitate to be involved in this shady debacle, I'd just follow what some guy said. If you cant remove and compare, just buy em both. Try fixing the first, if it works, then take the other one back and vice-versa. Thats just a commone sense approach to it They are only 40-60 bucks I think. If he wont return it, sell it on ebay...its still cheaper than paying labor for 1 hour for the install.

well sorry buddy. this engine was taken out of a wrecked one, i have the paper work in my hand, it just doesnt tell me the s/n of the engine. after reading the engine repair section in my book i discovered that the the engine number 5243b or whatnot and the s/n are located just under the cylander heads. thanks for your info tho to the first guy, it says its located on a sticker and pressed into the metal. and the water pump goes for 115 or so as much as i have seen. but i get a discount to make it down to 90, even with core charge. buying both just sounds like a last resort idea, not to mention i cant have my car in peices for longer then a day, its not my garage im using. all these lil unseen factors might of helped you to help me beter i guess. the information is out there you just have to find it. and i did. thnks again
