Took my '98 V70 to an import specialist yesterday b/c the radio button lights are out (LCD works, but no button lights). He told me there are no "bulbs" to replace, but instead, some kind of LED light wire....??? Anyone heard of this before? Any help greatly appreciated.

My S70 has the same problem, the button on the right side of the unit are out. I read the resonse about the face plate coming off and replacing the bulbs. If you do this and it works will you reply back as my long time service manager says you have to replace the radio - I am out of warranty and was planning to live with the problem. Thanks, Tom

I posted a similar message within the last few months. The response I received directed me to a location with very detailed instructions on changing out the "bulbs" using the radio shack parts. This worked perfectly, and anyone with a bit of technical ability can complete the process.

You need to remove the radio and take the front face apart. You'll see led bulbs that are replaceable.

Radio shack sells these led bulbs $1.49 for a pair. These are the same led bulbs that go into the dash switches.

Mine went when the car was still under warranty, and the dealer actually installed a new radio. from that I figured it was not a straightforward bulb replacement.
