follow up on volvo plugs questions and replies.. 850 1995

i got a good idea on the options for the plugs ..can anyone tell me what are the symptoms of a bad plug or misfiring. since i have replaced the plugs with bosch copper..my mileage has gone down..starting is still not a problem..engine is not shaking..but the exhaust system is bubbly and acceleration is down on low rpm....after car heats up..

i think with the gas prices this high for premium..it might be cheaper to use the best plugs for mileage.

I use the OEM plugs in my turbo. I see 25.4 mpg over 20K miles
(80%-90% freeway driving). Never had any issues with them.
I saw about 20mpg when my commute was 50% freeway.

    What milage are you getting?

Everyone, don't forget to inflate your tires properly for best
milage. That could also help make up for the $2.50/gallon for
    premium we are now paying.

I use the volvo oem 3-prong plugs that don't require gapping and they work very well.

I've learned that the 850s are very sensitive to their plugs. You didn't mention what model plugs you got, but I can tell by MPG & preformance when my plugs need replacement - usually about 25k miles for me. I use Bosch #FR7DC from eeuroparts.com with my non-turbos. To me about the same as OEM Volvo plugs.

Other simple things to check - that wires seated firmly on plugs and distributor, gap to spec (I think about.28) and perhaps wires might be going bad (on a '95 I would change based on age alone)

Also distributor & rotor should be replaced regularly. I usually do mine with plugs.

    Good luck!

i used the same plug as your mentioned bosch fr7dc. Now I am thinking that might not have been the right plug for a turbo. At the same time I replaced the plugs i replaced the wires, cap and rotor and filters..fuel and air..so thats why i am concentrating on only the plugs..and exhaust..
