Idle problem V70-XC70 2001

When at a stop, at idle, the engine does a quick RPM drop- sounds like it misfires-then returns to normal idle. It does this every 10 seconds or so. The dealer says it could be software, or component, and the only way to know is with an appointment. I'd rather have a better idea of what is happening before taking it in. Any experience with this problem?

    go to your dealer with flowers and thank him for the openness !!!
    start with updating all major software as per tech notes from sept. 2003
    many of them want to use you as a pawn for string of pretend-we-fix repairs......start with the basic upgrades first !!!
    who is you dealer anyway ?

      Thanks. The more I can direct them to the basic upgrades the less times I'll have to spin the " wheel of fortune" at the dealer. The dealer is Fisher Volvo, Portland OR.
