Machine gun turn signal V70-XC70 1998

Ok my 98 V70R's left turn signal now flashes about 4 times per second as opposed to about maybe 2 for normal. The right signal works fine and the emergency flashers work fine. Front and rear bulbs are flashing. I also put in a new emergency switch flasher 2 years ago when the signals overall just stop flashing all together. What is the problem? It did this one time last week then went away...now its back and doing it for the last 2 days consistently. Inputs?

I have this exact symptom on the right turn signal on a 01 V70 T5. It is intermittent and you get a warning on the message display. I checked the recall and service bulletin for 01 V70s and didn't find anything.

Before I do the remedy mentioned in this thread. I thought I solicit additional info if available. Thanks

I fixed this problem on my car. Here is what I found/fixed for future reference.

      - I took out the right turn signal bulb/socket assembly. There was a gel like substance between the socket and the electrical connector.

      - I cleaned the gel off both the socket and the connector. It was not easy to clean the female connections fully on the connectors (very tight space available between the female connections)

      - I swapped the left turn signal bulb/socket assembly with the right so I have an absolutely clean bulb/socket to go with the not so perfectly cleaned right turn signal connector.

The problem has gone away. Not sure how this gel like substance into the right socket/connection to begin with.

Look at the front bulb/socket. The fast flash indicates a bad bulb or contact problem. If you still have the gray bulb sockets with plug in bulbs, visit or call a dealer and ask about recall 101. This recall was to address poor contact in front turn signals. They will replace the bulbs and sockets on both sides with a different design.

U DA Man! I knew there was something wacky about a recall! I'll check it out!

In the mean time, you can pull the bulb and often clean up
the contacts. The wires will be burned. Clean it off with
some sandpaper and then use a small screwdriver to kind of
push the bulb contact wires up a bit. That will buy you a
bit more time. The lens assembly is easy to remove once you
know how -- the owners manual has nice drawings on this.

Oh, the left one goes out first because we spend more time
waiting to turn left (so the bulb is on more often). Eventually,
the right bulb would have the same problem.

        .
