Could a throttle problem left unrepaired lead to transmission problem -- 1999 S80? S80 1999

(note: I'd like to log in as new user but have not received password yet.)
Hello! I've been told by Volvo service rep that I need new throttle and new transmission. I brought car in about a month ago for problems I'd been experiencing for a few months, but they ran a diagnostic and couldn't find the source. Now, after new problems have arisen, they've said that what I described being wrong with the car last time could indeed have been the throttle problem but the computer didn't notice it. I'm wondering two things: (1) if the throttle problem not being diagnosed is connected to my new transmission problems, and (2) if I really need a new transmission (based on what I've read on these message boards, maybe not) or should I just repair the throttle and see what happens. My transmission doesn't feel like it's slipping. Thanks for your time.

Absolutely everything plays into the electronic throttle. Where one used to have a kickdown cable attached to the throttle there is nothing. However, of course the transmission gets its information from this unit to know whether or not you have decided to accelerate. I highly doubt you also need a transmission, though the transmission solenoids are known to go out on this model. The part number for the throttle body is 8644347, and costs $551.59. Labor to install, and the required software download should run around $225.00 depending on labor hourly rate where you are.

ETC (Throttle module) is a very common problem with S80 cars. You're looking at about $1,000.00 if the car is out of warranty.

A failure of the ETC will cause your car to drive in limp mode until the problem is corrected. Sometimes you can turn the car off. Re-start (Sounds like windows software, LOL) and continue driving for a while until the problem occurs again.
The longer you wait to replace the ETC, the longer you will experience the problem.
I think you need a second opinion on the transmission issue.
IMHO, I think you should address the ETC problem first and wait to see how the transmission works after that.
The transmission is controled by a computer that is affected by the ETC and sometimes ABS malfunctions.

By the way, I currently have 3 ETC modules I have been testing and inspecting so I can offer this service as well.

      vitor,
if there is no fault codes, no wild rpm jumping, no coughing, throttle is perfectly clean.....how would you recognize that the throttle is failing ?
(there are idle skips and dips + car is very often underpowered @ city driving speeds)
      regards,
      gr

      Attention "vitor" -- thank you!
I wish I knew more about my car's inner workings -- How can I take advantage of your ETC module service offer?
