Bilsteins and PBRs S70 2000

Today I put in Bilstein HD shocks and PBR Metal Master pads all around.

On the Bilsteins: I've only taken a short drive, but I really like the feel of the Bilsteins over the OE Boges. It gives the car the "classic Bilstein" feel. More isolated from small bumps and smoother, yet more responsive and precise. Compared to the OE Boges, bumps are "processed" much quicker. The Boge's gave more of a "crashing", drawn out feel. With the Bilsteins, the bumps are quickly absorbed and controlled. Some people say the Bilsteins are too firm, but so far I like it.

On the PBR MMs: I couldn't take the OE pads any more with all the dust. In fact when I took the OE pads out they showed some signs of crumbling in places. On my quick ride, the PBR MMs were quiet with good feel (once I seasoned them).

I'll post again once I've driven around a bit to give some updated impressions. I'll also be bringing the car in for an alignment check this week after all this work.

    Ted,

Did the ride height of your car change at all with the IPD Bilstein's, is there a larger gap between the upper edge of the tire and the edge of the fender?

A quick update. I must say that the Bilstein's give a great ride. Going over railroad tracks and speed bumps is much much quieter and smoother. Where the firmness shows up is on undulating pavement as the shocks rapidly control the motion. Instead of floating over the undulations the car will tend to track it more. This gives a much better feel of the road which I prefer. However, it's not that old style Cadillac isolation float that others may prefer.

The PBR MMs are doing fine. We had torrential rain this morning and they worked just fine.

    -Ted
