'sealed transmissiom' question S70 1998

A young lady I work with asked me what a "sealed transmission" meant for her 98 S70. Does it mean that you do NOT need to change the transmission fluid?

'sealed transmissiom' question S70 1998

Manual transmissions can probably be left alone. The come with
synthetic fluid and it is sealed so dirt should not get into it.

Automatic trnasmissions should have a flush every 30K. The fluid
has a pretty tough job in an automatic. After flushing ours it
shifted much smoother.

'sealed transmissiom' question S70 1998

i would change a manual as well...look at he number of oweners with m46/m47 boxes who have issues with 1st/2nd gear that moving the detant plate doesnt fix...im pretty sure it the fluid had been changed every 50k they wouldnt...my m46 was getting stiff at 145k..changed the fluid and 500 miles later its sweetening up nicely..

lets face it age will get to the oil if mechanical wear and heat doesnt...

for the few quid it costs..you change it often...

No such thing with Volvos. It's NOT sealed and yes, the fluid can and SHOULD BE flushed on occasion.
