Have a 1998 V70 with 89,000 miles. Bought it "used" from dealer Oct. 1997 with about 6,000 miles on it as a loaner. Have had no real problems with it to date. But, sounds like I'm in the mileage range where "bad things" start to happen.
Would be interested in hearing how many miles other owners have on 1st generation V70's and types of problems I need to start watching for.
I am still on second set of tires. Front brakes have been replaced. Currently have one lamp in radio out and may need to replace the infamous air-pump (check engine light is on and that's the code I'm getting - mechanic has not looked at it yet.) And that's about it so far except for regular services.
Thanks.
Will be interested in seeing what "high mikeage" really is.

1998 V70 AWD 140K miles - no real problems Aircon is starting to be inneffective despite recharges. Had a problem with a support bracket on the AWD system.
Apart from that drive very well

2000 v70 se
117,xxx miles.
Needed brakes, rotors (I would consider that normal), tailgate switch getting a little funky, needed trans reprogrammed (harsh), radio lcd display is gone, and replaced engine stabilizer.
So far, so good. Routine maintenance per the Volvo schedule except oil changes at half the interval and trans flushes annually. And lots of miles. She likes to drive!

What do you mean "transmission reprogramed"?
Is this something easily done?
Mine seems to be a bit "harsher" than it used to be?

According to a tech I know, that as the transmission wears, the dealer can reprogram the trans to accomodate for the wear since it is electronically programmed. I also did a trans flush too. It was $125 for the re-program, and $50 for the fluid.
He also told me that sometimes there is a $12 spring in the trans that weakens, causing some harsh shifting too. Don't know where this is. Neither did the dealer.

Abuelito, have you changed the timing belt yet. If you haven't that should be your first priority, as rec schedule change is 70K miles.
Regular oil changes about every 4 to 5K miles with a Mann oil filter and a tranny flush every 25K miles, should make the drivetrain last a long time.
If you use the AC regularly, change the air cabin filter every 10K miles and turn off the ac 2 min before you arrive at your destination. This would allow the ac evaporator to dry out to prevent rot and mildew and the dreaded ac evap failure.
So don't worry about the mileage, take care of you baby and she'll go a long way.
Buena suerte.

Yes, I should have mentioned the timing belt. Changed at 70,000. Guess I just considered that as scheduled service item.
What is mileage on your V70?

I got 82K miles on my V70, bought it used a year ago with 77K miles. Do you have the GLT or T5 version? The GLT has plenty of power for a light pressure turbo.
Are you familiar with volvospeed.com's bay 13 site. A great resource for DIY guys with FWD volvos. Lots of great info with pictures.
Cheers.

See the surveys at Kino's Volvo site http://kinovolvo.velez.ws/ and Bay 13's http://www.volvospeed.com/volvo_performance.php repair procedures for the common failues.
Over the past 1 1/2 years or about 40,000 miles I've replaced the ABS controller, SC816, AC evaporator, thermostat, heat exchanger, rotors, then 1 brake caliper and another rotor (seized), struts & shocks, ignition switch and an ipd stabilizer bar that "snapped"... and various other minor (under $50) bits and pieces.
No worse than my Saabs were but it's no Toyota! Unusual for a car with over 100k on the clock? Probably not. Still much cheaper than leasing a new BMW 745iL, at least that's what I keep telling myself.

Hey if it makes you feel any better, it's probably cheaper to own than my 760 was for the first owner.
Transmission replaced at 55k miles (out of warranty), turbo replaced under warranty, window regulator, power seat computer, many power window switches, radio replaced, yadda, yadda, yadda.

of which I just changed the trani fluid after 30K miles on it and it didn't look pretty. My gut tells me this will not be the bullet proof 740GL I had with
200k miles with no major engine/trani/rear work. I am considering moving on while the going is good!
