hesitation - feels like a strong wind V70-XC70 2000

I have a V70R stationwagon, year 2000.

When the car is driving at a constant speed, it feels as though there is a strong wind and then its fine and then another strong wind. Another way to put it is it feels as though someone is putting their foot on the brake while driving and then taking it off. This happens over and over again. Strangely, the rpm do not change. Everything looks fine on the dash. What could it be?

I had this issue with my 99 S70 GLT. It turned out to be the throttle body. The hesitation lasted for months before the computer registered an error. I had the throttle body cleaned and it resolved the issue temporarily but once the throttle body was replaced the hesitation never returned.

That was one of the symptoms I was having that (I hope!) turned out to be a mass air sensor going bad. Addl symptom was a rough idle (intermittent). It didn't set a code until it got real bad and only set it once. I ended up unplugging it and just put the new on last night. 100 mile commute today will be a good test. Good luck

just replaced the "throttle body" assembly on the Mrs. 1999 V70R AWD
I never thought about the surge as a 'gust of wind head on' but that is a valid description. It does cause a sudden, not radical, but slowing or 'braking' then back to normal...repeatedly..The rate of occurance will wary from vehicle to vehicle. Yes, no change in the speedometer, nor the tacho. The Scan tool code probably 4801, (a "group of 4801" items pop up). The throttle body is 'driven by a cable' from the foot gas feed (pedal). A hall effect sensor, LEM module, or potentiometer (I don't know which device) senses the "foot speed request" and the throttle body assembly converts this data, via ECM, which then "drives" a small servo, which "drives" the fuel feed and "away you go"...What the hell ever happened to simplicity ?? This is not an uncommon problem in the 1999 and newer, when the electronic control nmodule and throttle body assembly(s) were first implemented. whew..
