FCP Groton...Everyone should read this! 850

I have ordered parts from this company 3 times. The first two times they raised the shipping price after a quote was given to me and an order made by phone. I would find the increase on the bill I recieved when the shipment arrived. I let it slide, but not this time.

The most recent time, a week ago, Feb 16th, when I got online to view their pricelist. I have their website stored in my favorites section for easy access. Well, I got all of the prices off of the website and e-mailed them for the shipping charge and order by phone. A week later, yesterday--Monday, I recieve the parts and to my surprise on the invoice, two of the four items I ordered had a price increase attached. I called FCP and talked with the owner about the price discrepency and was told that the web site had been updated in mid January and that my computer saved the old web page, so therefore he was correct in billing the increased price.

Well, I just want everyone to know that web pages aren't saved, but the address itself, and thus what he said is not true. I have other web sites saved in favorites that I browse sometimes two or three times a day, and each time I go to that web site the information is new, not saved.

He could have kept me as a future customer by subtracting the difference from my bill like he should have.

*****It is so unethical to increase the price of an item after it is ordered and then claim it has been like that for a month!!*****

I called my VISA card company to have those extra charges removed from my bill.

FCP Groton lost me as a future customer for doing that. Cheap prices cannot make up for a lack of ethics.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with FCP. I was quite nervous when I read your post, as I had just completed the order form for some parts. I have used FCP in the past and had no problems at all, but was wondering if things had changed.
Fortunately, my parts arrived three days after I placed the order at the agreed upon price.
Sorry to hear about the problems.

Wow!!! I have dealt with them NUMEROUS times and they are the only people that I will deal with for Volvo parts. They ship SAME DAY, have great prices, and have almost any part you need... Besides, I live in MA, and if I order by 3:00pm that day, I have the parts THE NEXT DAY (not FedEx).

Try dealing with some of the other clowns out there and see how well you do. These guys have been nothing short of superb and I would give them my highest reccomendation.

Maybe it was actually your fault? 850

99% chance that this was your computers fault... Some pages will load differently than others, and some values can store in your computer in odd ways for some sites. Depending on how the page code is written, there can be many different ways your computer doesn't always update the price list. The FCP site can store kinda stange on my computer, but I always confirm the prices by going into the checkout with my basket and checking all the price totals there.

I have maybe 20+ orders through Nick at FCP and I have yet to get a problem besides a bad set of shocks that I exhanged for another.

Eeuroparts.com has decent prices on some of the stuff they sell... but the thing is... they don't sell that much. Besides the dealer or one of the partsbin places... it is hard to find the collection of parts and prices they have.

You do have a way out of this.... 850

Contest the charges on your VISA even though it has already been paid. It will then be up to VISA to fix the problem. I've done it before and it works great. Now I only use VISA for certain purchases in which I need to CYA. The VISA company will back you up.

you are lucky. at least you recieved the parts in a timely manner and didn't end up getting double orders and have to pay double shipping. check out my unfortunate story from an earlier thread.

i have an aftermarket hood and a/c condenser for sale for an 850. new never installed!! i ended up with two orders and double shipping cost because Parts Components in Cali is a scam!!! now so i ended up spending $600 more than i needed to. anyone else hear of this place. www.myautobodyparts.com??? i'm asking $150 each. located in indiana. delozztj@hotmail.com

i ordered the parts from them last may. after about a month with no parts arriving i called them and they said they were waiting on the hood and they would get it a few days later and send everything. that never happened, so the next week i called back and they said they were only waiting on the a/c condenser and would send the parts in a few days. from there i had a feeling i was getting screwed. eventually i kept calling back every day and they said the computers were down, they already sent them or they would the next day, all lies. about the second week of august, i finally called and told them i wanted to cancel the order. they told me that i had to do it through the website, so i tried. all they had was an email address, so i started to email them everyday to cancel. about a week later, i order the parts from a different company. the second company was great, i asked if they could price match the first company and they told me no, and to go to the better business bureau website and check them out. they were right, nothing but negatives. but they ended up giving me a deal and i got the parts for about the same price. so, about 5 days later, both orders leave los angeles on the same truck with the same parts. the first company sent the order over a week after i cancelled it. i guess i should have made sure they were actually going to cancel it, but i figured it has been over 3 months and i was never getting anything from them not even a refund. so i got both orders on the same truck. i could have refused the order but i figured i would never see any refund anyway so i took the parts. even more, the other day i got an invoice from the trucking company and they say the first company never paid for the shipping and i have to pay for it. so, it looks like i have to pay another $98 for shipping. sweet!! so total for just the one order i will end up paying about $600 for an extra hood and a/c condenser. on top of the $500 from the legit company.

well, the credit card transaction went through right after i ordered the parts. i don't really know any lawyers and if the shipping company can't get any money out of them chances are i won't either. maybe i should post a plea for legal help from a fellow volvo enthusiast on the board. i haven't really had too much time to deal with it though. i was planning on just putting the parts on ebay or in the auto-rv trader, but i don't really want to deal with shipping the hood. i also ordered a turn signal and it came packed under the hood broken, but $30 didn't seem worth the trouble of sending it back and trying to deal with them again which wouldn't accomplish anything.

Hate to say, but you are going to have to eat this one.

Any, and I repeat, ANY legal action against them would cost tens of thousands of dollars. Unfortunately, the advise about small claims court is way off base. Samll claims court is useless when you have a dispute involving parties from different states--its meant to deal with local issues. On top of that, you don't even know who to sue. In order to sue, you have to know who you are suing, and all you have is a name and address. Chasing down what type of comapny it is, who owns it, etc. will cost you thousands.

Write it off and just publicize this poor example of customer service.

Have you been aggressive with your credit card company? Have you filed a complaint with them? Included in that filing, have you sent a copy of the BBB report?

I'd take that one to small claims court. Small fee and probably a favorable judgement because they don't sound like they would show or even send a lawyer. And if they don't pay, you will still have a lien against them when they go out of business(hopefully sooner than later) Best o' luck.

    Rick,

FYI: I used to have the SAME problem (old web page saved in my computer) from a musical instrument distributor 3-4 years ago and found that I was loading the web pages (with wrong prices on them of course) from my computer memory cache instead.
I'm not a computer specialist but I know there's something you can do in your browswer to avoid that permanently, a friend of mine did it for me but I dont remember what he did.

I've order items from them and haven't had a problem. Last time I ordered was about two weeks ago for $110 worth of items. Just remember that with the US dollar going down, parts from Europe are going up such as Bosch etc.

    sorry to hear

I can understand a price increase IF you are told about it upfront, but suprising someone with the increase on the bill, not good.

Their parts are good quality and their prices are good, but damn, they didn't need to do what they did.
