850 wagon info 850

Greetings; I am looking at a 1995 850 wagon. 140K miles. Can anyone comment on that model and if there were any problems. Are there any particular things I should look for in a closer inspection of this car? Thanks in advance for any feedback on this post.

I have a '95 turbo wagon and purchased it with 70,000. The original owner didn't really do much other than change the oil regularly. It still runs great with almost 132,000.

I had the common problems:

A/C Evap - did the job myself and saved $1,200 dollars!
PNP Tranny Switch - did the job myself with Bay 13th's help
Wagon Tailgate repair/rattle kit - did it myself
Fuel Pump - failed at 100,000 and did it myself with the Haynes manual instructions
Front Shocks and Spring Seats - the seats failed at 110,000 and the noise was terrible. Since the entire strut must be removed to get to the spring seats, I also had the stuts replaced.

Within the next month or so, I have to replace the radiator. It has started to leak this winter and is showing its age.

Besides using ALOT of brakes and roters and tires its been a fun ride.

That's my story.

Hi W9KIR,

I have owned a '95 855T for almost 3 years now. I bought it with 70K and it now has 120K. I have had the usual things for these year 850's, A/C evaporator leak ( I just keep putting a can of 134A in a month untill it gets worse than that), The ignition switch is loose, ( sometimes the lights are not on when the car is on and shifter will not move until you wiggle the key back a bit and then everything works), the brake pads like to squeel sometimes depending on the out side temperature ( the colder it is the more often they squeel), the dashboard rattles a bit as well as the tailgate ( again it seemms the colder it is the more often), The fuel pump just quit one day with out warning ( the good engineers at volvo put in an accsess cover to get at the fuel pump from the top of the fuel tank so it was an relativly easy job to replace myself)
I replaced both front CV axles because the boots had torn. ( get under the car and check to see if there is grease getting flung around on the inside of the wheels)
It may sound bad, but for 9 years old it still looks fine and it probably needs a tune up but it gets 25-26 all around average MPG. And did I say it is a turbo,( compared to some of the newer muscle cars, mustangs and such, they get surprised every time I get a chance).
All in all I am happy with the car, it was still a year 850 that you can get the obd1 read out from the module under the hood, and it was the first year that 850's had side air bags. I plan on keeping it for a while and am able to work on it myself. that seems to be a thing that some people end up not liking these car for, I have read some people complaining about most of the things I have mentioned and have said good rittance to 850's, but they would not, or could not, or were incapable of doing some simple things to the car to correct things they complained about.

You state that the car you are looking at has 140K, you need to see if the timming belt has been changed, at 140K it is due for it.
Also see what maintenace records it has, some of the things if have mentioned probably have already been dealt with by a previous owner.

i have an 97 850 wagon, best car I ever owned. Only non-maintenance item I ever had to fix was an oil leak. owned a 240 sedan, 240 wagon and a 2001 v70 wagon.

No question best car was the 850.
