anyone have this prob? can you remove fan and just lube it up? is it a hard job? it sometimes seems to get stuck. Its under dash on drivers side, THANKS, KELLY

    The fan (blower motor) is located on the passenger side under the glove box. It is a common problem with 850. Most people including myself replaced the fan (blower motor) assembly (motor + fan cage). Some brickers did remove the fan cage (with a bit of effort) and lube the bearing. It is very hard to remove the fan cage from the motor shaft, and hence hard to lube. The squeek will come back even if you can lube it. I bought a new aseembly and put it in myself. No more squeek since then.

        It comes with either with the fan cage or without. It is your choice. I would prefer to have the assembly with fan cage, less headache.

            I forgot the exact price from Volvo. Back then, I bought the fan assembly from Borton Volvo. It was about $130. Other online store may be cheaper than this price.

              thanks for the info, will look into it, funny now the fan dosent seem to squeek as much but the middle vents dont pump out as much air, hasnt quit on me except that one time. weird car. kelly

                I am not sure why, but could it be that you accidenetally turn off the AirMix function of the center vents ?? Otherwise, it could be the air flow control of the center vents started to go ??
