850 Wagon Rear Hatch 'Rattles' !!!!!

To all,

I have a 1994 850 Turbo Wagon which I love - great car, not a problem out of it.

However, my hatch rattles terribly. VERY annoying. I put a towel under the hatch near the latch assembly (my smart wife's idea...) and it stopped the rattling completely. So, anyone have any suggestion on how I can fix it more professionally? The weather stripping(?) around the hatch is in perfect condition.

All help/comments appreciated.

Thanks,
Barry

the rattles usually comes from inside the tailgate panel, due to broken plastic clips, not from the latch. This problem is common also in the 740 wagons and also in the v70's.

I just fixed the rattling in my v70 by replacing the broken clips and using metal reinforcers where the clips attach. I had to do the same to my 740 wagon 3 years ago and no more rattles, in either one.

The dealer sells the tailgate panel repair kit, also they sell them on eBay.

A mechanic suggested wrapping things with foam. I have the same problem, but haven't yet attempted a fix.

I don't know about your particular model, but most hatches have an adjustable latch. Check the part on the car body next to the towel...
