Peeling black vinyl on the 850 wagon roof molding 850 1994

The left side roof molding that runs from front to back of my 850 wagon is peeling, cracking and lifting up. (this is a non-roof rack 850 wagon)

Two months ago, there was just a small area that had cracked and lifted.....I glued it down with E600 and although that area is holding,........much of the rest of the strip is now lifting up.

Is this a commong problem on the 850 wagon? What is the fix for this?

Thanks in advance,

Brian Collins

If it's like the rails on the sedan, the coating is very thin. It peels off like paint. I removed the coating to expose the metal rail. roughed up the metal with scotchbrite, masked it off and sprayed on Trim Paint. Most bodyshop supply stores stock this stuff under various brands. Mine was SEM. It looks just like the original coating and is very durable. And yes, all the rails crack and peel.

You can also remove the entire trim piece by starting from the rear and carefully pulling it up. It's a lot easier to sand down and repaint that way. The trim snaps back into place.
