In drive the vibration is excessive up to about 1300 reves. After that no problem
The engines mountings have been visually inspected but not removed and appear ok
Idle air controller have been checked and appear ok
Any help would be appreciated

Vibration problem 850 1995

I experienced a similar problem on my 95 850. After a lot of looking, O discovered the a/c compressor mounting bolts were loose. After having them tightened, the vibration went away.

Vibration problem S40-V40

Hi Sven,

my 97 S40 2.0l has 210'000km. Since a long time I have a noise problem around 3000rpm (noise is increasing). My upper engine mounts also show no sign of obvious wear but sometimes even without a cracked appearance they may be worn. I have ordered left and right engine mounts and will receive them next week (these are those fitted on model 2000).
Will tell you if it improve anything

But did you check the torque settings of the through bolt of the 4 engine mounts? A loose bolt may cause excessive vibration and sometimes one that is too much tightened too. It would be a good thing to remove the engie mounts completely to inspect them. My front and rear engine mounts were shot one month ago and the engine was vibrating a lot when releasing the clutch pedal. I looked at them and they seemed OK. However after removal I could see little cracks in the rubber. Now those lower engine mounts are new and I have no more shacking of the engine.

Regards

kilou

Vibration problem S40-V40

Hi Kilou
I have now done some work on my car. Removed the two lower engine mounts and found that they had been replaced and installed the wrong way, back to front. This was done before I bought the car. To my disappointment it made no difference to the vibrations after having reinstalled them correctly.
Next was the upper front motor mount (timing belt end) and after removal I found it was in a bad state. It has now been replaced and the vibrations are gone.
The moulded rubber was slightly beefed-up on the replacement part compared to the old one however it was ordered as a replacement part for my year model 1997.
