Centre childseat - immovable. 850 1996

Have an 850R wagon with the centre childseat/armrest cannot be brought down. It moves about 3 inches away from the back seat and then just stops solid - its free moving to that point.

Any suggestions?

Ive found that after working on volvo,s for 12 yrs that just snatching the hell out of it works just as well as any other of the fixes.

No joke give it a try..

if you look down on the passenger side of the child seat you'll see the black hinge that the seat folds up/down on. under that is a small metal pin attached to a cable and spring that connects to the lever that operates the whole thing. what happens is that pin gets out of place. there isn't a whole lot of room to work with i found removing the screw that bolts the child seat to the back seat give you a lot more working room. then just push that pin in work the hinge and then everything should be in working order.

Thanks. Problem was actually not with the side with the cable etc, although i can see the pin which you referred to as being a potential problem - seems a bit long for that spot & can definately move out the other side and stop the whole mechanism solid.

Anyhow, the problem was with the other side - there is another catch whose function appears to prevent the seat/rest from dropping down when the entire back seat is being lowered (controlled by the angle of the main seat). This was for some reason stuck in the locked position, even with the seat upright. It was free moving, so don't know why it wouldn't return to its correct position by itself. :s

But problem fixed! :) Thanks for the help. :) :)

    I had same prob b4

Either the headrest needs to me moved up or down, or, if you have a 3rd seat, try closing it...

I have a wagon, and one of those things released the arm rest / child booster.
