Faulty ECU? 850 1995

Just purchased a used 1995 850TA with just over 87,000 (KM or miles??) and have the following issues I haven't been able to resolve:

1.) Can't reset the service light with diagnostic "A" terminal 4-1-5-1 sequence, NOR could the Volvo shop with a diagnostic tool working from inside OBD II port - there is no rubber plug on the speedometer...

2.) Exhaust smells rich most of the time

3.) Odometer reads in Kilometers rather than miles (yes, I'm sure) but the speedomter is accurate

Everything else seems ok - the trip (digital) computer seems accurate for miles (not kilometers), miles per gallon, miles to zero etc.

Is there a chance that a faulty ECU might be a cause of all (or 2 out of 3...) of the above?

Thank you for any help.

/Ron

If you have 87k then it would most likely be miles. I have a canadian car and I can not set the computer to mpg. I can only get F instead of Celcius (if I wanted) If your speedo is set for miles with km in smaller numbers. Canadian cars do not have mph on it.

1) PIN #7 (not 4), then 4-1-5-1.

You might have a Canadian car which could then have a metric speedo, odo.

Faulty ECU, no

Just one thing to add. On 1995, its OBDI. Not OBDII.
