tranmsission fluid change, what fluid are you using? synthetic? amsoil? trick shift? 850

I need to do a fluid change for my auto transmission, i have a code set in the ecu that tells me it is sensing a slip of 100 RPM min between the tourque convertor and engine, I do not notice the slipping but apparently my ECU does.

So is anyone using any type of fluid other than standard OEM type?

i was thinking maybe the B&M trick shift or maybe Amsoil synthetic would help restore some of the friction additives and prolong a rebuild or failure.

Thanks,

Dan

Daughter's car was changed to AMSOIL synthetic ATF as part of the purchase agreement. That was some years ago, and fluid is still pink and good to go.
This was a complete flush, by the way. When she gets about 50K on the ATF, I'll change what comes out of the pan.

I am using Castrol synthetic, I think it made shifting a little smoother (very little difference from Mobil 1 synthetic).
However, my mech said that if the car was designed to run on regular fluid, than I should use the same regular.
Anyway, I feel that Castrol is a little better than Mobil 1.

***If your the fluid is REALLY dirty, I would repeat the flush after 1-2 days because you don't chane fluid in the torque converter during flush. ( I guess, you can flush converter as well if you place tranny in Drive and apply parking brakes, and possibly put something in front of thr tires?)

    Good luck
    Yuri ( no more CEL)

Son-in-law uses Mobil 1 and took care of shifting problems.

I just use Mobil One ATF for piece of mind. I think routine fluid changes are more important than using a synthetic with the 850 tranny because there is no filter in the system. Change the fluid every 25k miles if your not using synthetic, and maybe every 50k if you use synthetic.

My shifting became smoother running Mobil1 ATF. I wasn't having problems though.

      It may be a myth,

But I've heard synthetic ATF isn't really a good idea. Mainly because it encourages slippage between the clutches. Thus causing the tranny to slip more between shifts. Maybe that's why some folks say it smoothed things out? You don't want the clutches to slip more, you want them to less if anything. That's more of a pressure (and/or shift kit or overall rebuild) thing.

either or not that synth ATF encourages slippage between the clutches,
one thing that I'm sure now is the tranny runs "cooler" with synth ATF.

I don't think the differences between regular oil and synthetic oil has anything to do with their degree of "slip." I'm going out on a limb here, but I think both regular oil and synthetic oil, when new, "slip" to similar degrees.

What is different about them is their compatability, their durability, their stability, their longevity, etc., etc., etc.

Yes, you posted a myth. Synthetic is the only way to go. Amsoil or Mobil 1.
