brakes & rotors S40-V40

I took my 01 S40 to Firestone to have my tires rotated. They said I needed front brakes and that the rotors on Volvo's are too soft to resurface. Is that true? They are recommending replacing brake pads and rotors. Can't I just replace the brake pads? My car has 34000 miles.

u should not go to firestone they dont know what they are looking at. no way in hell any rotors wear out at 34k, volvo rotors are usually good for 3 sets of pads and should never be resurfaced or they will warp, be sure to use volvo pads when replacing to avoid noise or pulsation problems

Similar issue came up last week on another thread. Have a
    look at:

Seems like brake problems might be common on the 40 series.

It is true that Volvo rotors should not be turned (they are
    not particularly expensive though).

Also, I would use original Volvo parts.

Thanks. I'll take it to the dealer then.
