arm rest/console cover in S70 S70 1988

The arm rest/console cover in my S70 has snapped back (overextended) leaving a gap in base of the arm rest where it connected with the cover. A nice size plastic chunk came off in the back. I have tried every epoxy, glue, cement, etc. Nothing will support the motion of the arm rest when the cover is opened. Any suggestions short of replacing the entire base? Thanks!

I have the exact same problem on my S70 (you must have kids--lol). I tried epoxy and it would have held if I had also added a chain like the other poster suggested (the next time it was opened too far it popped the glued piece loose again. Now I think I'll also use some fiberglass cloth along with the epoxy and add the chain idea.

To prevent mine from over extending after it was replaced once under warranty I purchased about 12 inches of black chain and screwed one end to the base and one to the part you open. I made it so it would stay open but not over extend. It has not broken since and the chain just folds into the compartment when it is closed not taking up too much room. The cahin is probably about 1/4" wide.

Hope this helps.

Check with your Volvo service advisor, the dealers often have vinyl-plastic repair guys who make the rounds to fix this sort of stuff on used cars. (I just had a gash in the door panel of my Volvo fixed last week.)

Otherwise, if the piece can't be fixed ... and if the new piece from Volvo is too expensive (breakable plastic pieces usually aren't toooo expensive), consider a used part.

Have you tried JB Weld? I used some to repair my broken headlight mounts on an old t-bird I have after some backed into the front of me. That was over a year ago and they are still stuck in place...
