Stuck rear hatch on 1998 V70 V70-XC70 1998

I was hoping someone could help me diagnose the problem I have with my V70 rear hatch. I loaded up the hatch and when I got home I tried to open the hatch from the outside latch it wouldn't open. I tried to open the hatch from the inside latch and it wouldn't open either. I tried to hit the power door lock on and off to try to make it work but that didn't help. I had restarted the car to see if there wasn't something wrong when shutting off the acr but it wouldn't open either. Does anyone know what this could be or if there are any ways a shadetree mechanic could fix it? Thanks.

u need a new latch, need to remove t-gate panel from inside and trick the latch 2 open the gate, then replace the latch

When you look at the tail gate panel from inside how do you take it off? From what I can tell the screws that give access to the tail gate ae under the tail gate and out of view if the gate won't open. Any ideas on this? Would you attempt to do this as a shade tree mechanic?

Also, the tail gate has rattled for a period of time could this have been a sign of the trouble to come (with the gate not opening?) I have had the rattle fixed twice before by the dealer but it still continued so I ignored it.

      Thanks

it is sort of difficult . u basically just tear the panel off and replace the clips later, latches are notorious in your model. u could attempt a repair and if u find it too hard just bring it to dealer then.

Much thanks for your help. I'll start yanking the panel off and if that doesn't work hand the dealer the parts. Maybe this way I can get the panel to stop squeaking.
