pnp switch how long can I go on? 850 1996

This is my 3rd winter with this thing going off when it gets under 50 deg. caint seem to find a mechanic in my area to put it in, besides dealer. I bought the part last year. My question is am I doing any damage by letting it go this long? when car starts out in 3rd gear I shut car off once its warm and restart light still blinks but it shifts fine. car dose seem to run bad when its cold. sputters and stuff. I keep it tuned. kelly

The sputtering my be the throttle positioning sensor. I had an 1995 850 that had that symptom.

Have you already done the "cleaning"?
I did the "cleaning" on the PNP switch of my 95 850T about a year ago and the problem has not shown ever since.
This is the link to the "cleaning" procedure on Volvospeed.com

You're probably not hurting anything other than putting a lot of torque load on the engine with those 3rd gear startups. The sputtering is unrelated to the PNP. Have you considered doing-it-yourself with the Bay13 instructions?
