2004 XC70 Idle Vibration V70-XC70

I have a problem with very noticeable vibrations from the engine in the steering wheel and in the seats (that even makes my back tingle) when at a stop light in D or getting ready to reverse. Do other XC70 owners detect this type of vibration? I'm a new Volvo owner so maybe this is a common but with every other new car I've been in you can't even tell the engine is started unless you look at the tach.

I noticed a post somewhere and the Part No. 30671167 was mentioned with this link http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/vibrations.htm and the user that made the post described my problem exactly. I've taken the car to the dealer and none of the hydraulic mounts are leaking so I'm thinking I may have bad motor mounts.
How could the dealer see if the motor mounts are broken?

Thanks!

Go to www.xc70.com, search for 'steering wheel vibration...' in Forums or under my username 'roncar' and you will see a thread outlining the problem and the solution. Date is 5/7/03. You are correct, replacement with the UK subframe bushings will markedly reduce idle vibration. There is a UK TSB but none for the US. Get your Volvo tech rep involved as dealer service people know nothing about this. There is a Volvo tech rep on West Coast who is aware of problem.
Lastly, this is a big, big design fault in all Volvo large platform cars!

That part number that you posted is not a US part number, I couldn't find it on a p/n search for an XC70. Your car is still under warranty go to a different dealer if you can and see what can be done. I am still curious as to how a subframe bushing could be the cause of such a vibration. I would wonder if it would be an upper engine torque mount. A lot of dealers are shy about throwing parts at a car since volvo might request the parts back and charge back the dealership if no defect is found. I would check the drive system such as the driveshaft since your vibration runs the length of the car. Volvo refers to this is as the Active On demand Coupling or aka the AOC. I saw an XC90 come in with one of these that was bad. Of course the customer had purchased the XC90 from another dealership who saw an out of towner to unload it on. I hope this helps.

It is a UK (United Kingdom) part number. I saw the parts before they were installed and they say 'made in the UK'.If you look at the thread and do searches on 'vibration' on the Volvo XC forum you'll find a lot of info on the vibration problem. All I can relate is my experience and the solution I found after a lot of research and contacts with Volvo Car Club and Volvo tech people in England. Worked for me!
