roof racks S80

Looking to mount roof racks on my 2000 S80. Looked in manual and found the mounting holes above each door frame in gutter area. can anyone give me some advice on how this works. Do the aftermarket brands (thule, yakima) attach to these points or just volvos model. thanks....

Careful on S80 roof racks. The mounts changed at some point. Some 2002s no longer have the screw holes on the top and have gone to a hidden clip in the top rail.

I have a 2001 S80 and purchased the Volvo roof rack, however, I understand that it is made by Thule. Previously had a '99 V70 and purchased a Thule rack. You'll have no problem with the hole mounts whether you purchase from Thule, etc. or buy from your Volvo dealer.

On my 850, the mounting holes accept a corresponding "pin" in each of the rack bases which helps hold the bases, hence the rack, in position. My rack is branded as Volco, but is made by Thule for Volvo. I expect that Thule and Yakima make racks to fit these cars under their own brand names as well.
