1993 850 GLT help 850 1993

Hi all I recently aquired a 1993 850 GLT and a friend refered me to this site, I need some help with stuff before I do it myself.

Firstly the AC doesn't work, whenever I turn on the car the ECC faults or whatever and the AC off and Rec light blink for 20secs. The person who gave me the car told me the condensor leaked? but the passenger floor was soaked, and when the ac worked it was VERY noisy whenever I turned the car like a scratching noise. Now I can't get the fan on or anything and its hotter than anything in the cab HELP!

Another thing is I'm plannin to service it, oil / spark plugs / all that good stuff anything else i should do? this is my first import car my last car was a plymouth so I just want to make sure I'm doing everyhting right.

Next the speakers do you know the official sizes? im guessing but I want to be 100% sure

Finally the cd changer in the back doesnt seem to work, bc the headunit will display the tracks, but never play them.

Thanks for the help!

You A/C drain is clogged...Your dash has filled up with water and is leaking out elseware. Probably sounds like a river in there and the makes a loud noise when you turn the car (like a fan belt screeching noise.

Theres a hose coming out of that white canister you saw. Take that off and see what the obstruction is. Have something ready to collect the water because about 2 litres will probably come out.

thats exactly what it sounds like, alright where would the hose be located at?
I cleaned out the 2 inside the hood which were clogged, the previous owner on the car said that the AC had to be "blown" out a lot, which i think this is what she meant but now that im uncloggin the stuff its working. But do you also think that the water would make the ECC have a fault? thanks,

      Erik

The ac drain is behind the kick plate. peel back the carpet and remove the black piece of plastic. You'll see a pvc hose at the bottom of the white plastic canister. remove the hose and look for an obstruction (usually a small leaf. Make sure the pvc hose is clear of it also. Put back together. Turn on car with the ac running and see if it starts dripping (catalynic area)

When mine was clogged I didnt get any codes but that was from just one day. It sounded like the blower motor was hitting the water. Even on a sharp turn the water came gushing out of the vents.

I can't get the AC to turn on, the AC off and rec light blink for 20 seconds. I'm goin to try the drain thing now, see if that helps.

alright the passenger side drain was nasty, used a wire to open it, water everywhere, but when it was done there was still garabage coming out, so i used a shop vac attached the end to the bottom, and let it suck (the bottom of the drain piece fits perfectly over the end of the shop vac. Repeated for teh driver side, but there was no water on that side. AC still does not work, blinks the AC off and Rec light, any way I can find out wtf is wrong, b4 i give up and take it in and spend 100000 bucks? thanks,

            Erik

I do not think that a leaking condensor will make the passenger floor soaked. However, there is a heater core seating right in between the driver's and passenger's seats, deep in the dashboard (I have a '97 855 GLT), and that might leak. When the floor was soaked, did it smell like coolant in the car? because that is what goes through that heater core. Is your car's coolant level ok? I would recommend that you check that. AC might not be working for numerous reasons, one of the more often ones is evaporator failure, which is also seating deep in the dashboard.

    Hope this helps

    Max

this wierds me out even more, today driving home the AC just suddenly worked, i got up to around 80mph, the ECC set on coolest but the slide to 0, and then AC on but Rec off. It blows nice and cold whenever i stay above 60 mph, but if i switch on rec, it dies, or if i slide the control it dies. What is goin on? Thanks this is driving me nuts!!

nope doesn't smell like coolant, the reason I say the condensor or whatever is its dripping water from the white thing underneath the passenger side of that dash, but any tips on why the fan won't even come on? I miss the low-medium-high instead of that ECC crap, all I need is the fan to work for the defrost otherwise I have to use a rag so I can see.

      Thanks,

      Erik

      for speaker sizes.

make sure you see how much is left on your brake pads, and also check to see if you need to replace your timing belt. the timing belt is really important, if it breaks its BAD.

I also have a 93 GLT, and just finished doing the speakers. The doors are 5 1/4" in the front, and 6 1/2" fit into the back (they stock ones are actually slightly smaller). The dash is a 2" or so which I replaced with a 3.5". As for the rear shelf I replaced the stock ones (I believe they were 5x7") with 6x9" that seem to work well.
        Good luck,
        -Sean
