I have a 1993 850 GLT I purchased about a month ago with 124k miles on it.

The other day the glass moonroof quit moving. When I operate the switch in the dash the motor runs. I can hear the motor running when I move the switch either up or down. But the roof panel does not move.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it gears or cables or???
I am willing to take it apart and try to fix it myself if I have a place to start or a little guidance.

    I have no help to offer, but on a related point, I too have a 1993 Volvo 850 and my sunroof usually always works instantly when I move the switch to open it. It opens nicely, but then doesn't respond in any way (no motor noise, no nothing) when I attempt to close it. If I keep trying, ten minutes to half an hour later when I try, *poof*, if works fine (until I open it again... then same thing... wait and try, wait and try, and so on, until it works again).

    Could this be a the switch, or ? The switch looks and feels fine (not that that tells me much)... Any troublshooting suggestions welcomed, please use simplified instructions for a Volvo neophyte.

    By the way, I'm also curious as to how to get into the thing as cfatz is. Or perhaps if anyone knows of a way to close a sunroof if it doesn't respond to the switch. For that matter, how do I get into the switch? Oh, I'm just full of questions aren't I? (don't answer that)(ha)...

    Would the repair manual cover this? Next purchase on the list.

      Hi, I also have a '93 850 GLT.
      There is a way to close the sunroof if the electric fails. There is access above the light panel at the center rearview mirror. It is detailed in the owners manual. I've scaned the page and put a link on my website.
