tire pressure 850

What is the correct tire pressure for a 1997 850R with the 17" Pirelli P-zeroes? I have blown thru 4 front tires now hitting potholes. Someone told me I could increase the tire pressure, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

    tire pressure 850

I run 32-33 front and 29-30 rear, and never could (I tried to) suffer any sidewall damage with the Michelin MXMs that came on the car (ditto the 2nd set). At those pressures, I got 30K-35K mi per set, with essentially perfect wear across the width of the treads.

For optimum steady-state cornering balance I recommend you try to maintain the 3 or so psi difference F/R, so if it were me I think I might try Rick's 36 psi in the front where you are experiencing the failures but with somewhat less in the relatively lightly loaded rears.

    Hey, that's my car... 850 1997

Since I own that specific vehicle in black I thought I might be of assistance. I run 36 front and rear without regard to what the owners manuel or the gas door suggest. The reason is that I played around with the tire pressure in order to achieve as even wear on the tires as possible and 36 is what it ended up at.

I have not blown out any tires since I bought it new. I don't run Pirellis even though they came with the car at purchase, because they are expensive to me, so I run Falkens which I find are just as good but much cheaper in price.

    Hope this helps.

      Hey, that's my car... 850 1997

Mine is black as well - I LOVE this car. I bought it a couple of years ago used, and since then have gone thru 4 tires and 2 wheels (a very expensive habit) all on the front end. I've been tempted to go to the 16" wheel, but can't quite bring myself to do it, as I really like the look of the 17s.

As for your Falkens, how is the road noise with those? Do you find any differnce in hold or handling?

The Falkens wear nicely, superior to Khumo's, and have better wet traction than Pirelli. They also have a 30k mileage warranty. At $97 each, that's not bad. I don't hear any noise. Handling is about the same as with Pirelli.

I too was thinking about going to 16's, but that would entail a great deal of money.
