ECU Light - Advice please? 850 1995

I have a 1995 850, and the engine electronic fault indication fault light has just illuminated on the warnings panel.

I was wondering if there are any things I could check out and possibly rectify before I take the expensive step of approaching a dealer?

Colleagues at work have suggested that the lambda sensor on the cat may need cleaning and that this may rectify the fault light?

Sound sensible? Or drive myself to a dealer and find out for certain?

    Kev,

    As Jon suggested go to volvospeed web site. click on the repair/maintenance link and check on how to read the codes the ECU stored. Then clear them as described in volvospeed. See if they come back in a couple of days. In the mean time post the codes (and the ports A1, A2, etc) here. most probably there will be someone to direct you towards the solution of the code. But first you need to read the codes. It might be anything from loose gas tank cap to dirty Oxygen sensor. Good Luck.

      OK - Finally I found the reqd info at volvospeed and have checked my fault code.

      I got 2-4-3 on A2 - didn't realise I should have checked all the other ports (DOH!)

      Have carried out a reset and gone for a short drive with no fresh illumination so far.

      Any ideas on what it might have been?

      I will post up with a more detailed list if the light comes back :o)

        Kev,

        I've looked it up. code 243 means "Throttle position sensor voltage is out of range". What that means I don't know. Maybe you should post a new thread regarding this. I'm sure there will be more experienced persons to offer help on this. I don't think it should be big in terms of cost. However, it might affect the throttle response and fuel consumption. Try searching the archives on throttle position sensor.

        I don't remember the code 243. I can look it up in the haynes manual tonight if you want. You may try to post a new thread asking what the code might be. I think it has somthing to do with cylinder misfire but I'm almost sure that I remember wrong :).
