Premium Stereo System 850

I have a 97 850 GLT with the premium sound system including CD player. Two questions:
1. Have a CD stuck in the player, won't reject. Any suggestions?
2. The sound of this system is awsome. Also own an 02 Acura TL-Type S with a Bose system. The Bose can't touch the Volvo system. Was thinking of replacing the Bose speakers. Does anyone know the manufacturer of the Volvo premium speakers?

The Volvo premium speakers are made by Dynaudio,
    a high-end Danish speakers manufacturer

Dynaudios were not installed FROM THE FACTORY in any Volvo model other than the C70. There are Volvo kits for the S70 and V70, but not the 850, to install Dynaudio drivers in the stock locations. More information in the web page in my signature; click on "Tips...."

Questions for Jim- I did a similiar upgrade like yours in my 97 854, except the Dynaudio speakers!!(I went with Infinity Kappas in all doors). Since you have an S70, where did u install your amp for the SC-901? Also, based on the Part # for amp. you gave in the article, it came back as a "booster" for radio! Do you know the approx. size of that unit? the amp I bought is about 7"x4" and a bit-squarish(It was a amp from a 92 780 Bertone-long story). I had to have a pro install it behind the HVAC controls. I was told under the pass. seat but obviously the cable couldn't reach from radio to there.
Anyways, I don't know how the oringinal poster claim his stock system in 850 is better than the Bose(speakers) in his TL!!! The 850 have a decent head-unit but shitty speakers; it NEEDS amplification and defination! Since I did my upgrade in stages, I can tell you that Few OEM systems have great speakers(except the C70 and maybe the Levison in the LS). after i did speakers, the headunit did it no justice(lacking power; distortion if cranked up). Plus the built in EQ was not the best; so I got the SC901 and all my problems are solved. I've also added a separate Sub and I have a pretty decent system now. Good luck, D

The amp that I used is not a booster in the usual car-audio sense of the term, in spite of whatever one-line description is in the dealer's parts computer. This amp takes a *line-level signal* from the head unit, whereas my understanding of the word "booster" -- as it's usually used for products from Radio Shack and other suppliers -- is an amplifier that takes *speaker level signals* and amplifies them. But I digress....

The size, by my vague recollection, is about the same 7 x 4 x 4 that you described for the Bertone amp. It mounts behind and below the head unit, on top of the hump in the floorboard.

As for the original poster's opinion that his SC-815/816 sounds great, I'll give him that lattitude. Sound quality is a subjective issue, as opposed to sound ACCURACY, which the SC-815/816 clearly does not have. Apparently, Fruckman likes his bass. I say "more power to him."

Fruckman, do me one favor though: just turn it down when you're sitting next to me at a traffic light. :)

was under impression the u.s. spec premium was under alpine. all the speakers are paper. but the one i have sc811 on the 95 model doesn't like too loud a bass...distorts and "farts". the mb bose 96 c36 model doesn't have any problem. so...may be just the acura one isn't that great...

Just as an FYI from a sound-tech, when a speaker wobbles on too much bass and makes that sound that you're talking about - it's usually blown.
