Looking at a V70 V70-XC70

We are looking to acquire a V70 98-2000 model to replace my wife's much loved but high milage 740GL still a damn fine car though, but I am digressing. What should I be looking for re: common potential problems. I tracked down a V70 at a local auction but it had me a bit concerned. Price was o.k. but motor would not idle, stalled every time I took my foot of the gas (had to jump start the car, and the oil looked horrendous very thick & gluggy). Needed a good service so I decided to look for a better example. Any info would be appreciated.

Regards Fellow Brickster!!!

I would stay away from A 98 V70. For some reason 98 seemed to be a real bad year for Volvo's. I think if you look in this forum you will see most of owners asking for help own 98's.
